Reining in Bloodstream Infections: Highlights from the ACIPC Pre-Conference Workshop

Posted on 19 December 2024

On November 17th, AVATAR and AVAS (Australian Vascular Access Society) conducted a very successful pre-conference, full-day workshop at this year’s Australasian College of Infection Prevention and Control (ACIPC) conference at the fabulous Melbourne Convention Centre. The event, kindly sponsored by Solventum, attracted great interest with 100 in-person participants and 30 online attendees.

Themed “Let’s Rein in Blood Stream Infection from Vascular Catheters!”, the workshop featured an outstanding lineup of speakers, including Rebecca McCann, Prof. Andrew Stewardson, Prof. Diana Egerton-Warburton, Dr. Sam Mathias, ACIPC President-Elect Dr. Sally Havers, Prof. Claire Rickard, Dr. Jessica Schults, Dr. Gillian Ray-Barruel, Dr. Josie Lovegrove, and Christine Brown. Presentations covered global and local perspectives on preventing catheter-associated bloodstream infections, with a focus on practical applications of recent research and quality improvement.

The day concluded with enthusiastic discussions among in-person and online participants, who shared their own priorities for enhancing infection prevention in vascular access.

A big thank you to all the speakers, attendees, and supporters, especially ACIPC and Solventum, for making this workshop a resounding success!
